It feels like at least a month since we last had a new horror remake upon us so to kick off a year that's jam-packed with them, here's the first trailer for the potentially troubling Poltergeist remake.

Cast-wise, we're on safe ground, with Sam Rockwell and Mad Men graduates Rosemarie DeWitt and Jared Harris providing believably scared faces while Sam Raimi is on producing duties. It's being positioned as a family-friendly thrill-ride, a bit like the original, which could mean that either the scares have been neutered or the lack of gore makes for more carefully constructed suspense.

Anyway, judge for yourself from this new trailer, suitable for the kids, if you want them to have nightmares tonight.

Poltergeist hits cinemas on July 24
