The Happening Is Happening

Quick, chop them trees down immediately

The Happening Is Happening
25 October 2011

If, like us, you were unlucky enough to have witnessed the Hollywood car crash (and there was a rather ridiculous car crash involved as it goes) that was The Happening, you’ve probably spent the last three and a bit years trying to pretend that M. Night Shyamalan’s didn’t really take place. We know we have.

It wasn’t just the cack-handed manner in which Shyamalan tried to illustrate nature having its revenge on mankind – watch out, it’s a bloodthirsty killer tree! – but the risible acting on show. In one scene Mark Wahlberg is out-acted by a tree. Which means his wooden acting is bettered by an actual piece of wood.

We obviously haven’t done very well erasing this abomination from our minds. Which is probably a good thing, because it appears that The Happening is actually happening!

Police chiefs in Cambodia have blamed 136 students fainting at a school in Chamkar Leu on a lack of oxygen caused by a set of gargantuan trees in the school grounds. We kid you not.

No, it wasn’t because they were being made to stand in punishment for not showing the correct amount of deference towards the national flag. Not at all. It’s those evil trees. It really is happening.
