Stephen King's The Jaunt Headed To The Big Screen

skeletoncrewhero.jpg

Has there ever been a busier author than Stephen King right now? We think not.

The latest development in King world comes with the news that The Jaunt, a short story originally published in 1981, but which gained prominence as part of his 1985 Skeleton Crew anthology, has been optioned for a feature film.

Plan B Entertainment, Brad Pitt's production company, has taken the rights - for the usual King fee of $1 for a 90 day window - and has already brought Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the duo behind 2013 horror Mama, on board; Andy is expected to direct - he's currently developing Shadow Of The Colossus.

The story was originally published in Twilight Zone Magazine, 34 years ago. It's heavily grounded in sci-fi, taking place in the 24th Century and involves the practice of "jaunting", a form of teleportation. During any journeys, travellers must be under anesthetic, otherwise bad things happen. So, expect bad things to happen.

The news comes hot on the heels of James Franco's announcement that he will star in JJ Abrahms TV adapatation of 11/22/63Cary Fukunaga's It remake is still ongoing, Under The Dome is readying its third series, not to mention The Dark Tower, Mr Mercedes and The Things They Left Behind all being in development. Oh, and there's the small matter of upcoming new book Finders Keepers and short story Drunken Fireworks, both due in June.
