Seth Rogen spills some juicy 'Superbad' secrets to celebrate its 10th birthday

Wait... you changed your name to... McLovin?

Seth Rogen spills some juicy 'Superbad' secrets to celebrate its 10th birthday
18 August 2017

The passing of time: brutal and completely unavoidable. And so with regret it is my duty to tell you that it is TEN YEARS since classic comedy Superbad was released in cinemas. TEN YEARS. That makes McLovin 35 years old, probably married, probably in a professional job and almost certainly still horrible at sex.

And while most of us have seen it countless times, that doesn’t mean there weren’t things we didn’t miss. And this week, star of the film Seth Rogen used his Twitter account to share some anniversary trivia.

There are some famous cameos you may have missed

Superbad has plenty of party scenes, so you’d be forgiven for not noticing most of the background characters.

So even the most eagle-eyed viewers may have missed Rogen’s first titbit – that Eastbound & Down star Danny McBride was an extra in the background of the first party in the film.

It was a family affair

Remember all the dick drawings in the film? They were all drawn by screenwriter Evan Goldberg’s brother, Dave.

Some of it actually happened

Remember the period-blood-on-the-leg scene? That actually happened.

“It happened to my friend at a high school dance and we discovered it after,” Rogen said.

And “just like in Superbad”, “Mike Snider actually was the first guy to get a fake ID and it was awesome”; the characters were named after the actors because “they were based on us”, too.

The name has a predictable origin story

The name of the film, incredibly predictably, came about when cast members were smoking weed.

It made cinematic history

“During the MPAA screenings of Superbad they said we were the first movie to say "fingerfuck"”

It has some spooky connotations

According to Rogen, parts of the film were filmed about “half a block” away from the “OJ murder house”.

It’s had a long-lasting cultural impact

According to Rogen, “the cast of Jersey Shore confirmed to me that the phrase "D.T.F" or "Down To Fuck" is from Superbad”. And what better legacy is there than that?
