Ryan Gosling has finally revealed why he was laughing at the infamous Oscars mix-up

Ryan Gosling has finally revealed why he was laughing at the infamous Oscars mix-up
23 March 2017

Not that you were really that confused as to why he was laughing, were you? It was funny, that’s why.

Moonlight winning Best Picture was obviously an important moment in Oscar history, and it was a shame that its moment was ruined, but the sooner everyone realises that the Oscars are pointless and mean nothing, the better. They are not representative of the public – it’s a group of mostly out-of-touch olders making decisions on everyone else’s behalf. It’s all motivated by factors way outside the quality of a film – it’s big old circle-jerk and I hate it. The only good Oscars moment was when Three Six Mafia won Best Song for ‘It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp’ (still can’t believe that happened, must have been a glitch in the Matrix).

Oh yeah, there was one other good moment – when they fucked up Best Picture this year. I laughed, you laughed, even Moonlight laughed – it was ridiculous. Which was why Ryan Gosling laughed. Still, he’s had to come out and say something about it anyway, because the world demands apologies and clarification about everything nowadays. So because he did this:

He had to do this:

Speaking at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas (yeah I don’t know what that is either) he explained: “What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt. I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

Either that, or you just thought it was funny, Ryan. Anyway, that’s “why” he was laughing: something funny happened.

Really though, I need to reiterate – The Oscars can piss off.
