Rousing Trailer For Whiplash

If you’re hoping this is a sequel to Drew Barrymore’s 2009 roller derby drama Whip It, we can't help you there. A psychiatrist might...

If, however, you’re randomly hoping for a tensely energetic, awards-baiting drama concerning a bullying music professor and his attempts to hone the raw talents of a capricious young drummer, then you've come to the right place.

Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, it sees Miles Teller as the wunderkind and J.K. Simmons, fully due a fleshed-out role in a major picture after so many brilliant supporting roles of late, as the intense mentor, sparking off each other brilliantly. Another thing, it's intense.

And like we said, it's already generated enough Oscar buzz that we don’t really need to bang the drum for it – you can see all that in the new trailer, below.

Whiplash hits cinemas later this year
