Rousing First Trailer For In The Heart Of The Sea

If you thought Chris Hemsworth’s turn in Ron Howard’s Rush was high-octane, just cast your eyes over the first trailer for Ron Howard’s latest effort.

This is In The Heart Of The Sea, the upcoming waterlogged blockbuster based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s award-winning 2000 book of the same name, which sees the Aussie actor re-teaming with Howard to help chart the ill-fated 1820 voyage of the whaleship Essex.

Hemsworth stars as first-mate Owen Chase, one of the wily crew cornered into a battle for survival when a “demon” sea monster, or 80ft sperm whale if you're not a fan of sailor talk, proceeds to attack the ship and leave them shipwrecked for 90 days at sea.

How much of the book’s darker themes (read: cannibalism) will come into play during the tail-end of the gritty battle for survival isn’t clear from the clips visible below, though there’s no questioning the epic scale of the special effects. It looks like a showstopper.

Say what you want about In The Heart Of The Sea, but after this breakneck introduction our hearts are firmly in our mouths.

In The Heart Of The Sea will be in cinemas from 13 March, 2015
