Here's the latest image of Pennywise in the remake of Stephen King's 'It'

Just when you thought you’d forgotten all about the killer clown craze (yes, that was a thing) comes another reason to shiver at the thought of a pair of squeaky size eighteens and stray balloons.

Debuted by Entertainment Weekly, here’s the latest terrifying image of Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise from the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s IT.

Pictured craning his neck out of a sewage pipe, it’s enough to make Tim Curry’s own sewer-dwelling demon from the Nineties movie mini-series look like Ronald McDonald.

Formally helmed by Cary Fukunaga, and beset by setbacks and delays, the good news is that the film has wrapped and is set for an 8 September release in the US, with a UK date shortly after.

Speaking to EW, director Andrés Muschietti said of his titular terror: “Pennywise shows up, he’s front and center, and he does his show. He has an act. So it’s weird all the time, and every little thing implies a further threat.”

Skarsgard, meanwhile, doesn’t even want audiences to overthink the clown element, saying of the character: “It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates. It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look.”

Still, considering his septic dwellings, like most clowns you can expect him to be honking.
