You've gone to see Pacific Rim. You're looking forward to titanic struggles between robots and monsters. You're at ease, preparing for manly entertainment with all the depth of a puddle.

The trailers begin to roll. Oh, it's that Mandela film with Idris Elba - we're about to watch him smight nasties, wonder if he's any good at being serious. Before you know it, the sweeping music and stellar acting has gripped your emotions by the plums and tears are spilling from beneath your 3D specs. Pacific Rim seems silly now. You want to go home and hug a family member.

Don't believe us? Just watch the new trailer.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom hits cinemas January 3
