Stephen King Film Mercy Given Surprise Digital Release
01 October 2013

We never thought we'd see the day where Stephen King 'did a Beyoncé', but that's exactly what's happened with his latest movie adaptation.

Mercy, a big screen version of King's 1984 short story Gramma - originally published in Weirdbook magazine, before finding a home in 1985's collection Skeleton Crew - has been released onto iTunes with no buildup or promotion.

Blumhouse Productions made the surprise move yesterday; it's available now on iTunes and the trailer can be seen below.

Starring Dylan McDermott, Frances O'Connor, Chandler Riggs, Joel Courtney, Shirley Knight and Chris Browning, it tells the story of two young boys who move with their mother to take care of their dying grandmother. A noble move, before it's discovered that her residence is somewhat on the spooky side. To be fair, with Halloween just a couple of weeks away, it's the perfect time for this particular film. Spooktacular.
