It's good news for Bond fans everywhere: Sam Mendes has signed up to direct the new Bond film.

The next installment in the world's longest running film franchise will be the 24th, and the followup to the critically-acclaimed Skyfall, which was Mendes' Bond debut.

The screenplay will be written by John Logan, with the other headline news being an official release date of October 23, 2015 for the UK, and November 6 for the US. So just the 27 months to wait then.

Mendes commented, "I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli [producers] for a second time,” said Mendes.
