Idris Elba

If you've seen any of the trailers for gonzo robots vs monsters epic Pacific Rim, you'll be aware that the apocalypse is officially being cancelled. In-between the money shots of buildings being smashed, Idris Elba's character delivers a hair-raising speech about the human spirit triumphing over any invading aliens.

After roles in Thor, Prometheus and Ghost Rider 2, Elba has become a reliably strong blockbuster presence of late. To tie in with the release of his latest big budget offering, we spoke to him about gaining more work in the multiplex, his thoughts on Kanye West's leftfield Rim tweets and the world's craziest Wire fan is finally revealed.

Oh and this is worth watching purely for how he describes Ghost Rider 2...

Pacific Rim hits cinemas July 12
