'Gran Turismo' film in the works

After Fast and Furious 6 swallowed up £460,000,000 world wide, Hollywood studios have been scrambling to cash in on similar fast car franchises.

The Wrap reports that Sony is joining the packed out paddock with PlayStation titan Gran Turismo.

First released back in 1997, the Gran Turismo franchise provides Sony with a potentially vast audience: having already sold some 70 million copies, Gran Turismo 6 is set to launch the hotly anticipated PlayStation 4 later this year.

As a down-the-line simulator game with little by way of narrative, just what the film will involve is still a mystery. Probably cars, though with "Fifty Shades of Grey" producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti on board some violent spanking might be thrown into the mix.

With Universal likely to tune up yet another Fast and Furious outing, DreamWorks Pictures set to unleash Need for Speed and Legendary looking to get Hot Wheels off the line, cinema listings will soon slide into an M25 state of congestion.
