The Amazing Spider-Man received a mixed reception on release last year, but still made $750 million. The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 feels very much like a statement of intent, with more fun, more action, better effects and a whole load of villains.

We get more of a look at Jamie Foxx as Electro, the big bad with with lightning powers; a first look at Rhino (Paul Giamatti) in action, with some sort of exo-suit rather than the traditional horned onesie; plus what appears to be The Green Goblin. And is that Dane DeHaan, who plays Harry Osborn, riding the hoverboard?

Marc Webb returns as director for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone once more playing Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey respectively. In this new film, Peter Parker is graduating high school and greatly enjoying being Spider-Man. But the privilege of being a superhero has its downsides, including having a negative effect on his relationship with Gwen. When he meets Electro, a former fan who now possesses a power that surpasses his own, Spider-Man faces the possibility of an almighty squishing.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released in the UK on April 18, 2014
