Escape From New York Set For Remake

escape2.jpg

The Fox has got the Snake.

No, we haven't turned our hand to penning a new children's novel - news comes from Deadline that Fox has snapped up the rights to remake John Carpenter's action classic, Escape from New York - with Carpenter attached as executive producer.

A summer blockbuster of 1981, Escape is set in a near-future world in which New York is reduced to a high security prison. When Air Force One is shot down over the city, Kurt Russell's eye patched Snake Plissken is sent on a mission to rescue the US President and recover a tape of paramount importance to avoiding World War III. Plissken has 22 hours to complete his mission, otherwise he'll be taken out by an explosive device.

Obvious spoilers aside, Russell's gruff Plissken returned in 1996 for Escape from L.A - though there's no word on whether Fox is looking to remake the ill-fated sequel.

No cast or script writers have yet been announced, though rumours are circulating that Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam and Chris Hemsworth are being considered to take up Snake's eye patch. We'll let you know as soon as the whispers solidify.
