Driving & Dying: POV Shots In The Original Mad Max Trilogy

Before Fury Road, there was a long road. An extremely long road.

Cast your mind back to the first Mad Max film and you’ll remember that unlike the new effort, which sees Tom Hardy’s hero venturing through a sparse and rocky desert, the original films stuck closely to tarmac, burning rubber and asphalt in equal measure.

Choppy editing and bonnet-fixed cameras then took this one-step further as George Miller’s post-apocalyptic opera laid the foundations for many of today’s blockbusters, well before multi-million dollar budgets and - y'know - Mel Gibson went mad for real.

What you might not know is that Miller, who was a doctor before he went into cinema full-time, signed off all the health and safety stunt forms himself, saving the production an absolute fortune in medical insurance, and of course this is a big reason why the vehicular aerobatics look so realistic. And here's a reminder...

Comprising the coolest driving point-of-view scenes in the original Mad Max and its subsequent sequels (Road Warrior, Beyond Thunderdome), this supercut provides the very best of Miller’s rough and ready early years, scored, wonderfully, with aptly high-tempo songs from mashup maestros Girl Talk.

To say it still holds up would be an understatement.
