Brilliant First Trailer For Godzilla
11 December 2013

Godzilla needs a bit of a rejuvenation, with the woeful 1998 movie still lingering putridly in many people's minds, but the first teaser trailer for the 2014 revamp does an excellent job of wiping the slate clean.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, who made the impressive creature feature Monsters on a tiny budget, the new Godzilla has a hefty cast including Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The full details of the plot are still scarce, although an official synopsis makes mention of pitting Godzilla against "malevolent creatures", which sounds good.

The teaser is rather old-fashioned, in an incredibly pleasing way. Rather than give away the farm too early, it spends its two-minute running time focusing on the cast looking terrified, before offering one misty shot of the giant monster. If you're not counting the days until its May 16 release after watching this then we'll just have to assume you hate blockbuster movies and also joy.

There's also a new poster. What a day.
