That's no moon...Behold this massive gingerbread Death Star

11.jpg

Just when you feared there was such a thing as too much Star Wars, some clever sausage goes and constructs a bloody great gingerbread Death Star.

Posted to Imgur with the title “A fully operational gingerbread Death Star” – and by operational we can only assume they mean edible – the deliciously detailed festive treat has united the joint fan-bases of Star Wars and, you know, cake, to create possibly the most obscure Venn diagram of 2016.

Responses to the sugary space station were equally brilliant, ranging from the meta (“Marzipan leader, standing by”) to the mirthful (“Merry Sithmas”), and even the meticulous (“2/10 no thermal exhaust port. Would not eat.”)

A fully operational gingerbread DeathStar

And while the jury is still out regarding the gingery Death Star’s actual size – many imgur users have reserved judgement until a banana, for scale, is produced – what can’t be questioned is the gastronomical engineering of such a culinary endeavour.

As one poster quite rightly puts it: “I’ve been eating Alderaan desserts...”
