Fictional currencies get a real-life conversion

Investment advice? Put your money in Galactic Credit Standard - we're forecasting big returns come 18 December.

To save some of you a disappointing call to the chaps at FOREX, we best point out that you won't be able to get your hands on the fictional currency of the Star Wars universe from any reputable money exchangers. Nor will you be able to cash in on New Yen, Septim or Bison Dollars. Because they're made up.

But now, thanks to the work of Mobile Money, each of these fictional currencies has each gained an aspect of real-life relevance. The following chart takes some of the best known currencies from films, literature and video games and gives them a conversion rate - based on the value of goods in their source material - along with a knowledge-enhancing fact.

No, it's not going to help you make any savvy investments in the real world - but it might make you think twice before you go spending 3,000 bottle caps on a dodgy hunting rifle in Fallout 4.
