Adverts save Gillian McKeith

rexfeatures_1251074gr.jpg

Well, that Gillian McKeith is a one. Preparing to do another one of those Bushtucker Trials, the controversial ‘nutritionist’ collapsed for the third time on I’m a Celebrity… last night (November 21). But did she? No sooner was she fainting on live TV, than she was being accused of faking her dramatic fall. Even Ant and Dec appeared less than convinced as they hurriedly switched to an advert break.

So, McKeith was saved by a pesky advert. Unfortunately, adverts can sometimes arrive at the wrong time for us the humble viewers…

Fake fainting

So, to get you in the mood, here's the erstwhile You Are What You Eat presenter collapsing last night. And Ant and Dec, in between trying to stifle giggles, taking us to some adverts...

ITV drops an HD clanger

Viewers watching England's opening World Cup game against the USA were less than thrilled when an advert popped up after a few minutes. To compound the error Steven Gerrard only went and bloomin' scored while the ad broadcast. If only the rest of England's campaign could have been blanked out.

Everton v Liverpool, FA Cup

Funnily enough, ITV has form in this area. As a titanic FA Cup replay between Everton and Liverpool drew to a conclusion in 2009, the channel went to a commercial break in some regions. Some viewers were lucky enough to see Everton youngster Dan Gosling’s sensational winners.

Others were less lucky…

Not the perfect ad break

Let’s stop picking on ITV for a bit. This advert has to be one of the most inopportune breaks of all time. During the thrilling finale to The Perfect Storm, as gorgeous George Clooney attempts to ride an impossibly huge wave, up pops an ad for the off road vehincle Jeep. As if an SUV is gonna help anyone now.

And finally...

We can't show you this as it's somewhat risque, but this is a corker. During the 2009 Superbowl, viewers in Arizona (no doubt interested as to the fate of their team, the Arizona Cardinals) went from watching a touchdown for their team to a blue movie. Read more here. What's more, Arizona lost. Bad break.
