Watch kids react to the first generation iPod - and feel old

Warning: you’re about to feel old, extremely old.

For the latest episode of nostalgia-sapping YouTube series Kids React To, the titular tykes are handed a first generation iPod in all its bulky glory to gauge their reactions – mostly a mixture of bafflement and awe.

Not that you should be all that surprised: thanks to Apple’s ubiquitous presence and almighty output, these tech savvy children were raised on a steady diet of apps and iPhones, near enough downloading Angry Birds from the womb. They didn’t have to bother with impracticalities like a clickety wheel or low storage. And as for black and white - what is this, the noughties?

Depending on your outlook, it's also hilarious and/or horrifying to see that many of them believe it's actually a phone, despite the sad fact that most people were still using (shudder) flip phones back then. OK, nobody tell them about flip phones. Ever. Let's erase that from history.

Even so, the video makes for an interesting watch as the kids do throw up some very interesting points, like how it the first generation iPod's bulkiness allows it to stand up on its own, unlike the slender offerings of today which would probably float away if not watched carefully. The reactions and general flinching also reinforces just how primitive those curves first introduced back in 2001 really are.

They don’t know they were born – and to be fair, they weren’t.
