The Narrow Portrayal Of Graphic Designers On Screen

The Narrow Portrayal Of Graphic Designers On Screen

The Narrow Portrayal Of Graphic Designers On Screen

Let's start by clarifying one important point: we're not looking to offend graphic designers. Some of our best friends are graphic designers - they dress well, are perfectly eloquent in conversation and have that cool aloof thing that Ryan Gosling nailed in Drive.

However, these traits aren't universal to anyone who owns Photoshop - a fact which seems lost on the majority of screen writers.

Such is the maddening regularity of this misconception in the world of TV and film that YouTubers Ellen Mercer and Lucy Streule felt compelled to create the following supercut.

Up there with bad cops having a chin of perpetually four-day-old stubble and the consistent pattern of sports stars plucking victory from the open jaw of defeat, every graphic designer of cinema and TV seems to have been plucked from a niche, clichéd character folder.

Here's to a future in which graphic designers don't have to compare themselves to these unrealistic, damaging standards of Hollywood.
