Geico's Unskippable YouTube Ads

Everyone hates "pre-roll" ads. They're the consumerist barrier between you and the endless joy of YouTube.

But now a US car insurance company has made the pre-roll ad into a hilarious art form.

Geico - the USA's second-largest car insurance firm - has made a series of "unskippable" ads, which are over after five seconds. However, the way they finish makes you want to watch all the way to the end. Take a look at our two favourite examples, below, to see what we mean.

As an interesting aside, Geico's mascot is a gold dust day gecko (here's its Wikipedia page) which is voiced by none-other than EastEnders actor and Strictly star Jake Wood (here's his Wikipedia page). Mind boggling. Mind you, if Kevin Bacon is the face of EE in the UK, there's no reason we can't export our stars to the US, too. Maybe Vladimir Putin is the face of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter in Gabon. Who knows?

That's EE, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and Geico, all in the same piece. Who says advertising doesn't work?

You can see the whole array of Geico ads here.
