Jaguar finally unveils its most powerful production car ever

“Never forget where you’re coming from.” So sang tax-phobic heartthrobs Take That back in 1995, and it’s a message that still holds significant meaning today. In fact, Jaguar has taken it very much to heart in its newest production model – the glorious F-Type Project 7.

Recently unveiled at last month’s Goodwood Festival Of Speed, the latest Jag not only takes its design cues from the Project 7 concept which was revealed in 2013, but also from the classic D-Type racer, which bagged Jaguar three Le Mans wins in its long and illustrious history, and celebrates its 60th birthday this year.

If the aesthetics of the car combine past and present, though, the interior is all about the future. The Project 7 is officially Jaguar’s fastest and most powerful production car ever, packing a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine capable of hitting 60mph in 3.8 seconds and – if you happen to be driving it on the Autobahn – reaching a top speed of 186mph.

The result of all this is, to quote Jaguar’s chief engineer Mike Cross, a “driving experience that is pure and involving in every sense”. The company will only make 250 of them, though, with the first customer deliveries beginning mid-2015, so if “pure and involving” is your thing, you’d best act fast.
