Concept cars are elusive beasts. The thing of teenage dreams, they seldom make it further than the drawing easel, the occasional curved hulk making it into metal as a one-off show piece. The McLaren P1 GTR is set to be the latest ridiculous concept to make from the drawing board to the road. Or rather, track.
Borrowing the GTR label that McLaren proudly attached to its Le Mans 24 Hours winning F1 in 1995, the P1 GTR is a track-only supercar of extremes. For a start, you'll only be able to buy this 986bhp monster if you already own a McLaren P1 (itself a £800,000+ car), for a staggering £1.98m.
Anyone shelling out two million won't just get another garage-filler; the package includes participation in driving events at some of the world's most iconic circuits, with full support from McLaren engineers, access to former F1 champions and racing simulators to improve your driving skills. There's even a consultation from the McLaren driver fitness team.
Set to be unveiled on 16 August at California's Pebble Beach Lodge, several thousand bedroom walls are about to get a new supercar idol.
