Kickstarter For Conan Board Game Raises £500,000
19 January 2015

Do the economic thrills of Monopoly fail to thrill you? Do the mysteries of Cluedo come up short? Sounds like you could do with a barbarian in your games' cupboard.

Monolith Board Games is promising to deliver just that.

United by a love of immersive board games, the New York-based team of veteran game experts recently took to Kickstarter with a concept for a board game adventure basedon the world of Robert E. Howard's Conan. A month later, and their miniaturised battle experience has brought in close to £500,000.

An asymetric game (it's different every time you play it), Conan can be played by two to five players: one plays the role of "The Overlord", controlling a large selection of evil forces made up savage tribesmen, undead minions (no, not from Despicable Me) and general nasties. They must take on one to four players who control the legendary Conan and his fellow adventurers, over a detailed board based on Howard's Hyborian world. While the Overlord has their own goal to achieve victory, heroes must be played from a first person perspective, much like in a role playing game, with games lasting up to an hour.

Each kit comes with 74 unpainted characters, allowing keen model makers to come up with some outrageous designs for their pieces. With a mountain of dice, playing cards and rule books, this is a feast for Conan fans and board game addicts.

Available for £60 on the Monolith Kickstarter campaign, first orders will ship in October. So plenty of time to brush up on your best Conan war bellow.
