Film stars and actual stars have a fair bit in common. People stare lovingly at them from afar, they're unobtainable yet addictive and they can quite easily crash and burn.

Whether it was this set of similarities or just a keen eye that inspired these charts, we're not sure but we do know that we like them an awful lot.

Those damn geniuses over at We Are Dorothy (who were also behind this excellent movie map) have created two Hollywood Star Charts to celebrate two cinematic eras.

At the top, you can see 'The Modern Day' which is based on the night sky over New York on June 16th 1960 - the date of the first showing of Hitchcock's 'Psycho' at the DeMille Theater in New York. Psycho is often seen as one of the key films in the beginning of the post-classical era.

Underneath, there's The 'Golden Age' star chart is based on the night sky over Los Angeles on October 6th 1927 - the release date of Al Jolson's 'The Jazz Singer'. It was the first 'talkie' and remains of the most influential films ever made.

Each chart connects stars and their films and lists their Oscar wins and positions of their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
