Our editorial director and resident Lee Child fan, Phil Hilton, had his own private Christmas last Friday when the manuscript for the latest Jack Reacher novel 'Gone Tomorrow' turned up among the coffee cups and muffin wrappers on his desk. He was so excited, he decided he wanted to tell the world about it. So he started this blog, and here's part two...

On page 75 after three days of reading (what? I’m savouring it!) It’s a goody. Utterly absorbed from the first page – Gone Tomorrow is written in the first person – so we’re in the head of Reacher. It’s great in there, much better than in mine. He never seems to worry about prepping for a meeting, buying cheese for his son’s packed lunch or whether he’s drinking too much Rioja.

Thinking this one’s going to be the best for ages. Trying to work out how to squeeze the reading into the work/life schedule. Could do with a very light bout of flu.

Lee Child has set an amazing pace this time out. The chapters are very short and already I’ve learned a lot of stuff about the New York subway system and how to confront a group of combat trained goons. May retreat for a long reading session tonight, with a glass of Rioja.

Feel a virus lurking. I may be running a slight temperature…

Gone Tomorrow is out on April 23rd, priced £18.99.
