“Who wants to live forever?” Cher, by the looks of it, but for most of us, there’s a general understanding that life is pretty finite. However, the singer of those lyrics - the late, great Freddie Mercury - has achieved an immortality of sorts: probably something to do with being the most exalted showman of the twentieth century.

And if, like the ShortList office, you’re still mourning the big man’s passing, you could do a lot worse than head down to central London’s Proud Gallery and take in previously unseen, candid images of Queen in their heyday.

The pictures come courtesy of Peter Hince who spent two decades as the band’s head of crew, having first come across the foursome when they were supporting Mott The Hoople in 1973. The following years saw Hince form a close relationship with Queen, giving him unsurpassed access to both their personal and public lives.

If you love Queen, if you cried when Freddie died, if you too want an electric guitar that shoots cartoon lasers just as Bryan May’s did in the video for A Kind of Magic, you should see this exhibition. Click through for a taster of what's in store.

Queen: The Unseen Archive by Peter Hince is showing between 30th July and 13th September, Proud Central, WC2N 6BP, Proud.co.uk
